The Autumn Equinox 2022: Change is in the Air

The Autumn Equinox 2022 is just around the corner!

When you wake up on the morning of September 22, you might find yourself feeling a little bit more excited, a little bit more hopeful…

There is a growing feeling that the long awaited change is finally in the air.

Despite the unprecedented turbulence we are currently going through as a collective, this change of season is here to grant us a much needed opportunity to reap the fruits of our efforts we’ve been putting in since spring.

Thursday, September 22 (or Friday, September 23, depending on where you are on the planet) is the official start of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere.

The September Equinox occurs when the Sun crosses the equator going south.

The Latin word ‘equinox’ translates into English as ‘equality of night and day.’ It’s the beginning of a new season.

After the Autumn Equinox, days start to become shorter than nights.

This is to continue till the Winter Solstice occurring on December 21, which marks the change of season when days will start growing longer again.

This cycle of the seasons is the cycle of life and death, metaphorically speaking.

The Harvest Moon and the Autumn Equinox

The Full Moon that occurs closest to the Autumnal Equinox is traditionally called the Harvest Full Moon.

The name is connected with farming and harvest gathering.

The Harvest Moon appears in the Sky around the sunset for several nights in a row, blessing farmers with extra light so they can finish harvest gathering.

This year’s Harvest Moon occured on September 10.

It was the Full Moon in the Zodiac sign of Pisces.

Spiritual and Astrological Meaning of the Autumn Equinox

Traditionally the seeds we’ve planted around the time of the Spring Equinox, at the start of the astrological New Year, should bring in the fruits of our labour right around the time of the Autumn Equinox. It’s the harvest time of the year.

The changing seasons are key points in the cycle of nature.

It’s the perfect opportunity to acknowledge and honour the cycle of life we are constantly going through on an individual and collective level: our growth, harvest, death, and rebirth.

The ground is being prepared to enter the darkest time of the year.

Things are slowing down and we are getting ready to hibernate during long winter months.

The Cosmic Weather Report

The Autumn Equinox is associated with the energy of Libra.

This cardinal air sign, ruled by the planet of love and abundance Venus, is the perfect representation of an equal give-and-take we crave in our partnerships, and life in general.

This year we have 6 planets in retrograde at the time of the September Equinox (Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto and Neptune). It’s above average, which means it’s best not to rush things at this time.

The notorious Saturn – Uranus square is almost exact on the day of the Equinox.

The good news is that we became quite familiar with this energy by now.

It’s still quite challenging but we are a lot wiser and better equipped than back in 2021 when it got activated.

The ongoing struggle between the past, represented by the Lord of karma Saturn, and the future, represented by rebellious Uranus, is to continue throughout the fall.

The Sun in Libra conjuncts the planet of communication Mercury in retrograde.

This cosmic alignment shifts our focus to relationship issues, most likely from the past, that may come up to the surface again around the time of the Equinox.

Don’t be surprised if you hear back from your ex partner or work colleague around September 22.

It doesn’t mean you need to get back with your ex but you may receive some important information that can help you finally get a definite closure at this time.

It’s an excellent opportunity to review your past connections to ensure the mistakes of the past are not repeated.

Since 6 planets are in retrograde motion, now is the perfect time to re-evaluate, revisit, rethink, re-do, re-organize, rearrange, re-position and re-launch.

So make sure you engage in these sort of activities more often than initiating brand new things at this time.

The change of seasons traditionally ushers in new beginnings.

This time around it is very likely that major new beginnings are sprouting from our past efforts.
