New Moons and Full Moons of 2023

In astrology, Earth’s Moon represents the most hidden, intimate corners of our soul: our emotions, instincts, memories, vulnerabilities, fears, and deep-seated desire to be safe and nurtured.

The Moon is associated with the subconscious part of the brain that has the biggest effect on our instinctive reactions and decision-making processes.

The Moon is the mother figure of the Zodiac.

This magical, celestial orb is the closest planetary body to Earth and visible almost every night in the sky.

The Sacred Meaning of the Moon

Over the centuries, the Moon has played a significant role in different cultures and traditions.

The Moon moves quickly through the Zodiac, spending about two and a half days in each sign.

It passes through all twelve signs in about 28 days.

Some nights, at the time of the Full Moon, we admire its beauty and grandeur.

Other nights, when it starts to fade, it becomes thin and inconspicuous, so different from the peak of its fullness and magical glory.

Ever-changing lunar cycles remind us of the cyclical nature of life itself.

The Moon’s physical power is demonstrated by the phenomenon of ocean tides, which are generated by the moon’s gravitational pull.

It’s a well-known fact that the human body consists of nearly 60% of water on average. It only proves that the moon has the power to influence our physical and mental states, just as it influences ocean tides.

The profound connection between Moon cycles and human states of being has been observed throughout the centuries.

Since ancient times, full moons have been associated with anomalies in human behaviour such as sleepwalking, suicide, violent outbreaks, etc.

In fact, the words “lunacy” and “lunatic” derive from the name of the Roman moon goddess, Luna, who was believed to ride her silver chariot across the sky every night.

Hippocrates, the father of the modern medicine who lived in Greece in the fourth century B.C., was one of the first physicians who recognised the “importance” of incorporating knowledge about the Moon (and other celestial bodies) into medicine.

Purportedly, he once said: “A physician without a knowledge of astrology has no right to call himself a physician.”

Moon Phases and Their Meanings

The Moon constantly passes through the cycle of growth and decline, and the phases of the Moon are different parts of this never-ending cycle.

They are much more than just astronomical phenomena; they have a deep symbolic meaning. Understanding each stage of the Moon cycle can help guide us on our journey of personal growth and development.

The full Lunar cycle consists of 8 phases:

  • New Moon
  • Waxing Crescent
  • First Quarter
  • Waxing Gibbous
  • Full Moon
  • Waning Gibbous
  • Third Quarter
  • Waning Crescent

To simplify things, it’s recommended to work with two main phases of the Moon: New Moon and Full Moon.

Meaning of a New Moon

The New Moon is the beginning of a new lunar cycle. It’s fully dark. It is the time of the unknown; the time to plant the seeds of new intentions.

The slate is clean.

Plot, contemplate, plan, and strategise how to achieve what you truly desire. Don’t play small.

This is the time of infinite potential and vast possibilities that are not yet visible to the naked eye.

Meaning of a Full Moon

The Full Moon represents completion, the peak of manifestation of the intentions you set at the time of the new moon. It’s the time to celebrate your growth and the progress you’ve made so far.

Take a moment to sit still and reflect on how far you’ve come. The Full Moon can also illuminate what has gone wrong on your way to achieving a desirable outcome.

It can be a painful but necessary realisation. Don’t blame yourself for the things that went wrong. Analyse, thoroughly examine the situation, learn from your mistakes, and move on. Remember, at the end of the day it’s all about the journey not the destination.

Here is the list of New and Full Moons of 2023 to help you achieve your goals and co-create with the Universe.
